Did Barça defender Pique respond to Arbeloa's comments?

Moments after Alvaro Arbeloa had made reference to Gerard Pique and the Santiago Bernabeu had taunted him as they celebrated their 11th European Cup, the Barcelona defender reacted on social media. Or did he? "I hate Christian Laettner," he wrote on Twitter.

Christian Laettner

Laettner was a basketball player who generated a lot of controversy in 1992. In the United States they didn't feel he should be participating the Olympic Games because he came from a university team and had still not played a single game in the NBA.

In addition, the exact phrase "I hate Christian Laettner" is a documentary on ESPN on the said player. In the documentary there are various images which paint a bad picture of Laettner: he fights with his team-mates and stamps on a rival.

Many have interpreted Pique's tweet as a comparison with Alvaro Arbeloa. The Madrid full-back had his problems with Iker Casillas when they were team-mates, while on the pitch he has also exhibited, throughout these years, a special skill to lift the tension in Barça-Madrid matches.

In any case, Arbeloa's words ("I don't know who this started with") and the Pique tweet which followed, whether it was a response or not, makes it clear that the Clasico continues to be disputed on social media. Will it continue next season when Arbeloa leaves Los Blancos?
