The France coach is happy the drawn out saga is finally over

France coach Didier Deschamps celebrated the end of the soap opera over Antoine Griezmann's future, saying that it's "great news for his club and the national team" that a decision has been made.

Griezmann announced on Thursday that he would stay at Atletico Madrid, turning down the chance to move to Barcelona.

"There are two things that stay with me from Antoine's decision: his loyalty to Atletico Madrid and the fact it's now a weight off him before the World Cup. And that's a positive for us," Deschamps said in a press conference.

Griezmann revealed his decision during a documentary which lasted over 30 minutes. Asked about it, Deschamps said he knew nothing about it.

"I didn't know anything about the television show," he said. "To be honest with you, I already have a lot of other things to occupy myself with at the moment..."

The France coach didn't want to opine on if the decision was the right one, just saying that "it's great news for his club and for France."

He added: "I'm speaking about the decision being made, not the way it was made. A lot of people gave a lot of importance to that, but like I said before, it's good news for his club, the loyalty he's shown, and for us, because he goes to the World Cup without any worries."
