Denis Suarez: Ronaldinho changed the way we watched football

Denis Suarez believes former Barça player Ronaldinho was the reason he began playing football, with the Spaniard now preparing to begin his second stint back at the Camp Nou.

Ronaldinho played five seasons for the Blaugrana before leaving for AC Milan, winning five trophies in the process.

"Since the beginning I've admired Ronaldinho, he changed the way we watch football as children," Suarez began, "Pep Guardiola also inspired me, he was one of the best - if not the best - ever.

"I remember Ronaldinho's goal against Sevilla [in the 2004/05 season], it was impressive."

Suarez will be competing with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta in the Barça midfield next season, but he believes these players will help him develop into a better player.

"I present myself as a midfielder who likes the passing game of the team. Surrounded by these players I sure I'll improve and progress more.

"If you have the ball for 75 out of 90 minutes, it's much easier. With the ball you're protected better, that's Barça's model and philosophy that every player likes.

"I'll play wherever I'm put, but it's true that my performance will be better in one of the midfield positions either on the left or right [of Sergio Busquets]."

Iniesta is a player who not only inspires Suarez but is also compared to the former Villarreal player a lot - something the latter is particularly proud of.

"To be compared to Iniesta is a luxury and pride," Suarez concluded, "To reach his level I have to work hard, but it's special to see comparisons between us in the way we play because I admire him a lot."
