A decade later Spain has more Real Madrid than Barcelona players...

Julen Lopetegui's first Spain squad caused a big reaction. For the first time in a decade La Roja feature more Real Madrid players than Barcelona stars.

The likes of Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio have been picked, along with the usual faces of Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Morata.

While Lopetegui has picked four Barcelona players, in Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets, it could be five if Valencia's Paco Alcacer signs for the Catalans.

It has not been since November 15, 2006, that a Spain squad has had more Madrid men than Barcelona picks.

That day Andres Iniesta was the only Blaugrana representative, for a friendly against Romania, picked by Luis Aragones. Casillas and Sergio Ramos represented Madrid.

Spain's successful era - winning the 2008 Euros, 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euros - was done with a Barcelona core to the squad.
