Dani Alves on staying at Barça, Luis Enrique, Kevin Roldan and Aleix Vidal

On Tuesday afternoon, Dani Alves gave the press conference he thought he would never give, or at least that's what he thought on Sunday night. 

The Barcelona right-back's contract was ticking towards an end and a renewal did not seem to be in sight. However, at the last minute, Alves and Barça struck a two-year deal, with a third year included depending on how much he features in the second year. 

Alves, who looked to be saying goodbye to Camp Nou on Sunday night, then appeared in front of the press on Tuesday to explain what had prompted the turnaround.

1. On staying: The truth is that I am in the place where I feel loved. At some moments I doubted that, but the other day it was very clear that the majority of people love and value me. I always follow my heart and my heart asked to continue [at Barcelona]. I have never seen a group with such a connection.

2. Lionel Messi's advice: Leo said to me 'Dani, stay. Where else can you go that is better than here?'

3. On Luis Enrique: He believed in me. I will always remember what he said to me at the start of the season when people were doubting me: 'Dani, stay at this club and we will have a year to enjoy.' I remembered that phrase when the final whistle blew in Berlin. 

4. Comparisons: I don't usually like comparisons... but this team [to be around] is better than the side that won the first treble [in 2008-09 with Pep Guardiola].

5. On Josep Maria Bartomeu: We have a good relationship, even better since the renewal [laughs]. Listen, the club is more than just the president. Many more people than him decide what happens. The president is not the owner.

7. On Gerard Pique and Kevin Roldan: "It's a shame he couldn't come to the treble celebration [laughs]. No, it was just a joke [by Pique]. But, yes, it is true [Roldan] did help us a little."

  8. On Aleix Vidal: 

I love that players come here to add [to the team] and I am motivated by competition. When it is most difficult [the challenge or the competition], I am most motivated. He is a great player and he deserves to be here. I hope we can help each other. Hopefully we help each other continue making history.

9. Not about the money: It was not a question of a fight between Dani and the club. It wasn't about finances. If it was about the money, I would not be at this club.

10. On being 10 percent in the club: Things have turned around. I am where my heart wants me to be.
