Just 48 hours ago quotes from Dani Alves appeared in the newspaper 'O Globo', claiming that at the end of the season he would leave the club to start a new adventure in the English Premier League.

The defender and his representatives soon made it clear these statements had been made a while ago and were not current.

A few days earlier the Brazilian's agent, Dinora Sana Ana, had told his newspaper about Alves' willingness to continue with the Blaugrana, but said he had not held a single conversation with the Barcelona hierarchy.

Everything was pending a meeting with the sports management.

The reality, though, is different from what was reported in 'O Globo' and what was stated by his representative.

Dani Alves will stay with the club until at least June 30, 2016.

The Brazilian defender's contract renewal has already been agreed in the most basic terms, although it is true that the most important details have not yet been realised.

Negotiations have been direct and with the utmost discretion; Josep Maria Bartomeu was the man who took the first steps towards redirecting the right-back's future.

Right now, the big question is whether a second season will be included in the new contract - either guaranteed from the start or optional, depending on various variables.

Following the emergence of Alves' comments regarding England, Barça will try and make an official announcement within two or three weeks.

Despite the arrival of Douglas, the transfer ban has aided Alves' situation, with Barcelona unsure whether they could replace him if he left next summer.

Nobody wants to prolong the situation, nor for it to develop into a soap opera.
