Dani Alves' enormous gesture to a blind Barcelona fan

Dani Alves can be a controversial player. His quirky character has cost him more than one detractor. However, no-one can doubt the humanity of the Brazilian. The Barcelona full-back left everyone speechless in the build up to his side’s derby on Sunday against Espanyol (5-0) thanks to a spontaneous moment with a blind fan.

Just after the warm up before the game, when the players were coming back out on to the pitch to begin the match, Alves realised that Carlos, a blind fan with reduced mobility, was on the bench at Camp Nou along with Alves’ partner, Joana Sanz and Sergio Busquets’ partner Elena Galera and her son, Enzo.

Without thinking twice, Alves grabbed Carlos in his arms and raced with him - in a manner we’re more used to seeing on the right flank - to the middle of the pitch for a photograph session. At the same speed with which he plays, he then returned him to the bench, where the family of Carlos and the Barcelona players’ families were gathered.

Alves’ partner, Joana Sanz, was very proud of her boyfriend’s actions, as she revealed with an emotional message and image on Instagram after the game.
