Daily Star: Manchester United's Darmian an alternative replacement for Alves

Matteo Darmian has been cited as a Barça transfer target this summer as the club intends to bolster its defensive options.

The club has seen both Dani Alves and Marc Bartra leave for Juventus and Borussia Dortmund respectively, whilst Adriano's future at the Camp Nou is still uncertain.

According to the Daily Star, Ariedo Braida - the Blaugrana's technical commissioner - has recommended Darmian as a new acquisition this summer, with Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho seemingly seeing no place for the former Torino defender in his plans.

Barça could approach the Red Devils with an offer of 20 million euros. The fact that the 26-year-old endured a testing season at Old Trafford - albeit winning the FA Cup on May 21 - that saw the club finish fifth in the Premier League and exit the Champions League at the group stages has led Mourninho to reportedly place the versatile full-back on his list of potential summer departures.

The Blaugrana are, however, not the only club interested in Darmian. In his native Italy, several clubs have already enquired about his availability in the transfer market.
