Cristiano Ronaldo speaks about his rvialry with Barça's Leo Messi

The 31-year-old admits they're not the best of friends, but says that doesn't mean they're enemies

In an interview with Coach Magazine, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about his relationship with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

It’s well known that the battle between the duo over the last decade has been one of football’s biggest talking points. From the Portuguese star’s point of view, “it’s not like we’re not good friends, but there’s a respect between us both. The media sell this great rivalry, but we don’t have that.”

Ronaldo is loved and hated and he’s aware of that, accepts the situation and says he uses his ‘haters’ as motivation: “Football has shown me that I have to use the negative people as motivation. In reality I need my enemies. They help he achieve everything I’ve won.”

Messi has also praised Ronaldo in the past, who he’s said he admired. In fact, at the Ballon d’Or galas in 2014 and 2015, for example, there was a mutual understanding between both players.
