Crazy evening involving Barça's chase for Kevin Gameiro

Barcelona continue to try to finalise the last signing ahead of the 2016/17 season but know it won't be easy after what was a crazy day of events on Sunday.

Sevilla and Atletico Madrid had been negotiating a deal that would see Kevin Gameiro move to the Estadio Vicente Calderon and Luciano Vietto go the other way, most likely on loan with an option to buy.

The alarm bells were sent into overdrive after Gameiro sat out Los Nervionenses' friendly against SV Sandhausen, and it was clear that the Andalusian club didn't want to risk the Frenchman's fitness with an impending transfer in the works.

There was already a bid at a very advanced stage early on in the afternoon and the offer, according to information given to SPORT, was from Atletico.

Barça had been in talks with Vietto and Gameiro and knew about the matter before taking action to reach an agreement with one of the two players. Gameiro was the club's clear priority and was extremely close to joining the Blaugrana, according to Sevilla sources.

Despite these negotiations, Atletico came back with an improved deal of their own with a proposal that included money and Vietto. At the close of SPORT's latest edition, Los Rojiblancos were trying to convince Vietto to be part of a deal that would see him move on loan to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan with an option for Sevilla to buy the striker for 22 million euros.

The Argentinian - without Gameiro's presence - would be the undisputed starter in attack and the deal seems a good option for the 22-year-old.

At present, it appears that Barça are likely to lose out on both their transfer targets, although there is an open offer to Vietto and the club are certain they can convince the Rojiblanco striker to join. Everything now depends on Sevilla, who do indeed want Vietto but could break off negotiations with Atletico if Gameiro is taken off the table.

Everything is a puzzle that needs to be resolved and Barça remain calm and know they must be patient, since no decision on either Gameiro or Vietto's futures is imminent and both players have much to decide themselves.
