Could dependence on Messi, Suarez & Neymar be a problem?

Honestly, I don’t mean to create controversy where there isn't any. As of today, I would not change Lionel Messi, Neymar or Luis Suarez for any player in the world. And I would not change them collectively for any other trio you could offer.

The performance of these three players last season, individually and as a team, is well above any doubts. And I am convinced that, if injuries allow, they will get better still. Watching them play is a pleasure.

So, you will ask, why do I think they could be a problem. My reasoning, and everyone has their opinion, is that with these three in Luis Enrique’s side, it is difficult to have fourth or a fifth forward in the squad. With Pedro finally leaving, is it be because of money? I think we are all in agreement that is not why; it is a question of minutes.

And with Pedro leaving, even though Barcelona can bring players in again in January, who can they sign? How many players are of the right quality to come in and how many are are available?

Those that know me a little will know that I am a staunch fan of the club’s academy. For that reason, I have confidence in Munir and Sandro. I have seen them play and I know what they can bring. But as of today, I am not sure they are ‘mature’ enough to fill in if it was required on a more permanent basis.

Sincerely, I think it may have been better if they had gone on loan to another side in La Liga for a year. I understand, though, that with four forwards now dropping to three with Pedro's exit, Barça have not wanted them to leave.

It’s a complicated problem. Should Barça get rid of one of these forwards to be able to have more attacking options? Of course not. But I think it’s fair to say relying on the three is potentially a problem, especially if one of them gets injured or passes through a bad patch of form.
