Could Boateng become a Barça defender?

Jerome Boateng could be the central defender Barcelona are hoping to sign to add the final piece to their backline. According to 'Radio Marca', Barça have decided he is the player they want and negotiations have already begun with Bayern Munich.

Apparently, Andoni Zubizarreta had arranged a meeting with Boateng's agent on Thursday. However, interest from Real Madrid has forced the meeting to be brought forward. It is not known whether is has already taken place or not.

The cost of the German international would be around €35million, a little less thant the €50m which Fiorentina are demanding for Juan Cuadrado. In addition to being cheaper, Barça also consider the signing of another central defender the most important thing left on their agenda - regardless of whether Dani Alves leaves or not.

Boateng can also play as a full back and Luis Enrique is a fan of that versatility.

He would arrive on the back of winning the World Cup with Germany, where, as with Bayern, he has proved a key component of the defence. He is tall - 1.92m - possesses decent speed and physical qualities, while he is also good in the air.
