Corriere dello Sport: Juventus back in for Mascherano

Juventus will make one last attempt to sign Barcelona's Javier Mascherano with Paul Pogba's imminent departure reopening interest for the Argentinian, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Rumours about Mascherano's potential departure from the Camp Nou gained momentum during the weeks that followed the end of last season, but over time Barça have managed to remedy the situation and the continuity of 'Jefecito' seems assured.

The player himself made it clear earlier this month that his willingness is to continue playing in the Blaugrana shirt.

All levels of the club are working to finalise his contract extension past June 2018, with sporting Robert Fernandez optimistic in this regard.

Information coming from Italy suggests that Juve have the available finances to make the deal possible - assuming Pogba leaves for 120 million euros - but the Bianconeri are also closing in on the signing of Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain for 95 million, which could scupper a deal for Mascherano.

The Serie A champions are also interested in the likes of Axel Witsel, Mateo Kovacic, Nemanja Matic and Moussa Sissoko.
