Champions League group stage draw: Barcelona's worst potential opponents this season

In the same way that Real Madrid have been lucky in previous Champions League group stage draws, Barcelona are one of the teams that have had to deal with more complicated rivals in recent years.

If the myth of the "cold and hot balls" that Sepp Blatter talked about some months ago was true - something UEFA have flatly denied - then Barça have definitely been harmed so far.

The Blaugrana have not been fortunate over the last two campaigns. In the 2015/16 season, Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE Borisov were the group stage rivals, while the previous season saw Barça come up against Paris Saint-Germain, Ajax and APOEL Nicosia.

WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO

The most difficult situation that could confront Barça in this year's Champions League is a "group of death" alongside Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco - three teams from three major European leagues.

Manchester City's inclusion in pot two would also make things complicated, as Pep Guardiola's team are one of the favourites to win the title this season.

A group with City, Olympique Lyonnais and Borussia Monchengladbach would also cause serious headaches for Luis Enrique and the Catalan club.
