Cesc Fabregas not "deceived" by Pep Guardiola... and backs Catalan independence vote
Cesc Fabregas says that he was not tricked by Pep Guardiola despite his failed second spell at Barcelona.
"I was not deceived or disappointed by Guardiola. I do not expect anything from anybody in football," he told Radio Marca.
The playmaker is now enjoying life back in London with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
He was key as the Blues beat Arsenal 2-0 at the weekend, setting up Diego Costa for the second goal against his former side.
Despite being happy in the English capital, Cesc still feels an allegiance with both Catalonia and Spain.
“I feel Catalan, but I’m Spanish. I understand everything about this because we are a country that likes this debate a lot," explained Fabregas.
"There are players who feel Catalan or Basque but when we play sport we are all Spaniards, we are comfortable playing for the national team and we are not going to think about being Catalan at the same time. Mixing sports and politics is a bad thing to do," he said.
Fabregas continued: “I feel as Catalan as the next man but if you look at my passport it says I'm Spanish, I’m proud to play for my country. I have a clear conscience. I know who I am and what I want."
On November 9 in Catalonia a referendum may take place where people can vote on whether they want to stay with Spain or choose independence.
Politicians in Madrid do not want this to take place and currently it may even be deemed illegal if it did happen - but Cesc thinks it should.
“On November 9 I think people have to vote and be free to show what they think. If people want to they should be able to because there is no damage that has been done to anyone. It is like Scotland, people should be able to decide what they want to do.”
