Cesc Fabregas: "I never thought I would leave Barcelona"

Cesc Fabregas has told British newspaper 'The Sun' that he never expected to leave Barcelona.

The Catalan midfielder signed for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea this summer, bringing an end to his three-year spell with Barça.

"When I left Arsenal [to join Barcelona], I had the mentality that I would stay [at Camp Nou] forever," he explained.

"I never thought I would leave.

"But things changed and in the summer I decided that I wanted to go.

"In football things change. I left Arsenal for a reason and I haven't returned [to Arsenal] for another reason.

"I left because it had always been my dream to play for my home club, Barça.

"I hope that people understood."

And the 27-year-old seems happy with how his return to the Premier League is working out.

"It was important to find the best option for me and I decided that would be to return to England," he continued.

"There is not better league in the world than the Premier."

But what about going to Arsenal's London rivals, rather than heading back to the Emirates?

"Arsenal had the first option," Cesc confirmed.

"They could have said 'yes', but they decided not to take it.

"They told me they already had [Mesut] Ozil and they didn't need me as well."
