Catalonia coach Gerard Lopez to take over as Barça B boss

Following Josep Maria Bartomeu's re-election as Barcelona president, the current manager of the Catalan national team, Gerard Lopez, will take over as Barça B manager.

The former Barcelona player will be tasked with trying to return the side to Segunda Division A, following last season's relegation under the watch of Eusebio and, later, Jordi Vinyals.

Gerard Lopez, who also commentates for TV3, knows the club's philosophy well, given he played for Barça in 1996-97 and again between 2000 and 2005

He maintains a good relationship with Luis Enrique, which should help with the co-ordination of the younger players between the two teams.

Gabri has been in charge of Barça B during the first week of pre-season, although he knew it was only ever a temporary thing.

It had previously been though, however, that it would be Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, the Juvenil A coach, who would be in charge of leading Barça B back to the second tier of Spanish football.
