Catalan Super Cup player ratings: Turan & Marlon Barça's best players

There weren't many good performances as Luis Enrique's side suffered a one-goal loss to Espanyol

MASIP (5) Let in an early goal after Mathieu was beaten by Caicedo and his movement off of his line was at desperate as it was useless. Didn’t have a lot to do overall, though.

NILI (6) Better with than without the ball. Will have to improve defensively to take advantage of Aleix Vidal’s situation.

MARLON (7) A decent performance which suggests he could have a first team future at the club. Was one of the pleasant surprises of preseason and this display confirmed those sensations.

MATHIEU (5) Couldn’t stop the game’s only goal. Overall it was a discreet performance and not one he’s likely to remember. Came off early in the second half with a knock.

MOISES (6) Played at left-back and created a great chance for Arda Turan. This was an interesting performance, although unfortunately he ended up being taken off injured.

CARBONELL (6) Lacked a little commitment to mark his presence, but in general this was a good game from a player playing deeper than he’s used to. Another one to go off injured late on.

ANDRÉ GOMES (4) Good when going shoulder to shoulder and recovering the ball, but so slow in his actions. Ended up committing error after error.

DENIS SUÁREZ (6) Started the game well and was always looking to drive the team forward. However, in the end he ran out of ideas, despite seeing plenty of the ball.

ALEÑÁ (5) A difficult night, above all because there’s so much expected from him. There was the odd sign of his quality, though, and he will get more chances.

ALCÁCER (5) Too many times he seemed anxious to score. Wasn’t able to connect with one Aleña cross and was booked in the first half for a foul on Ruben Duarte. A quiet night.

ARDA TURAN (7) The Turkish midfielder suffered an early scare when he appeared to get injured in a challenge with Martin Demichelis. Fortunately was able to carry on. It wasn’t his best performance, but there were more pros than cons and he looked Barça’s best player.

SUBSTITUTES

MARTÍNEZ (6) Came on for Mathieu and looked to have a good understanding with Marlon.

PALENCIA (6) Luis Enrique placed him at left-back when Moises went off, although he’s normally a right-back.

ALFARO (N/A) A late showing on the left wing.

SARSANEDAS (N/A) Came on in the middle of midfield for the final minutes.

MUJICA (N/A) Introduced on the right, but had no time to impress.
