Carles Puyol on the advice his father gave him about effort

Carles Puyol, the former FC Barcelona player, said on Friday in Mexico's capital that the most difficult thing to do is not "winning, but winning after winning". He also said that he always gave 100 per cent as a Barcelona player.

Puyol was speaking before 10,000 young Mexicans at the Mexico XXI Century at the Telmex Foundation of multi-millionaire Carlos Slim.

Now 38, Puyol told the youngsters that fighting for what you want always gets paid off and also said he went through one of the most difficult months of his life after deciding to retire. He also reflected on his father's words.

"When I went to Barcelona, he told me the only thing he could advise me was to give everything until the final day. If you come home because you can't help, here's the door, but if you come back home because you have not given everything, look for another place [to live]."
