Carles Puyol pays tribute to the Cruyff foundation

Carles Puyol has shared his pride after the Cruyff Foundation opened a new centre in his hometown of Pobla de Segur on June 7.

The former Barcelona captain thanked the foundation for "thinking of me and my people" and stated that the initiative is encouraging children to play football in his old neighbourhood.

"Children [here in Pobla de Segur] are very fortunate to have this pitch, it's spectacular" Puyol said, "They're going to have a good time and will capture all the values that are defended in football and this is very important."

The Cruyff Court is a social program aimed at strengthening the values of football among disadvantaged children. FCB Foundation and the Obra Social La Caixa have collaborated with the initiative devised by the late Johan Cruyff.

Puyol added that "it's an honour to have my name linked to Johan".
