Brazilian defender Douglas Pereira's shocking record with Barcelona

Douglas Pereira has joined Sporting Gijon on loan and needed to be let go of Barcelona in order for the Catalan clu to stop seeing the defender constantly wasting his time at the Camp Nou.

As of today, nobody knows why Barça signed Douglas in August 2014. The Blaugrana paid 5.5 million euros for his services from Sao Paulo with the Brazilian going on to make just eight appearances with the club in two years, winning a second historic treble for Barça, no less, in his debut season.

The 26-year-old arrived at the Camp Nou as a big unknown and hadn't made a single appearance for Brazil. And, as it eventually proved, Douglas didn't possess the required quality to succeed in Catalonia as probably best summed up by his disastrous debut against Malaga in September 2014.

Douglas is tied to Barça until June 2019. Sporting director Robert Ferandez and Albert Soler did everything they could to find him a new team but it was to no avail until he was convinced to join Sporting on loan.

At 'only' 5.5 million euros, Douglas is undoubtedly one of the worst signings in the history of Barça.
