Bravo injury gives Ter Stegen a shot at La Liga redemption

The injury picked up by Claudio Bravo at the Benito Villamarin at the weekend has thrown Marc-Andre ter Stegen back into the La Liga picture. The German goalkeeper was focused on the Copa del Rey final (May 22 at the Vicente Calderon against Sevilla) but now he will play in the final two league games of the season as well: Espanyol and Granada.

To take a positive view of the Chilean's injury, it will mean that Ter Stegen at least arrives at the cup final, which he will start, having played some minutes in the weeks before the match. With Barça out of the Champions League, that may not have been the case otherwise.

REDEMPTION

Ter Stegen made his La Liga debut this season after Bravo had suffered an injury. He didn't make the best start to life in Spain's top flight, either. In his four matches he conceded seven goals.

However, Barça won three games and lost one (Celta Vigo), although that one was a 4-1 thumping in Galicia. The German goalkeeper, during these 360 minutes, made 11 saves (four from shots outside the area and seven from inside). The fifth game he played in La Liga came on Saturday in Seville, although he only came on for two minutes. The 24-year-old, therefore, is seeking redemption in La Liga. And he will have two games to do so - with the prize being the league title.

FUTURE

Ter Stegen has another chance to convince Luis Enrique that he should be the goalkeeper in all competitions. The German, as of today, is not guaranteed to continue at FC Barcelona if he spends a third season rotating with Bravo. At 24, he wants to play all the games in all the competitions and if Barça can't promise that, he will listen to other offers.
