Bartomeu's Christmas present for Luis Suarez: a new contract

The Uruguayan will extend his Camp Nou stay in the coming days according to the president

Luis Suarez is close to renewing his Barcelona contract. The Uruguayan will sign a new deal until 2021 and it will be done before Christmas, according to Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

“We’re about to close Suarez’s renewal,” Bartomeu told Uruguay’s Radio Vision. “There are just a few final details [to sort]. But Luis will continue at Barcelona.

“He’s well loved by everyone and he loves the club. In the coming days, weeks, we will announce it. Maybe it will be a great Christmas present. Not for Luis, who knows he will continue, but for football fans.

“They know that he’s a really important personality, that he forms part of this spectacular trident that we have at the club, that he helps the team.”

And the president believes Suarez will be a reference for years to come: “I think we have Suarez for many years. And when he retires, if he wants to stay in Barcelona, at the club, then we will always be open for him.

“We would like Luis Suarez forever at Barcelona. We have a project, called La Masia (360), in which we hope that the players, when they retire, remain linked to the club.”
