Bartomeu planning to offer Luis Enrique a new deal as elections loom

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has two names with whom he will use in his presidential campaign.

The first is the manager, Luis Enrique Martinez, whose renovation he will make a priority.

The second is the signing of a midfielder, not just any midfielder but one who carries weight in the market: someone like Paul Pogba (Juventus) or Koke (Atletico Madrid).

After taking over from Sandro Rosell without being elected little more than a year ago, Bartomeu is now thinking about how he can make his mark.

His first aim is to add another year to Luis Enrique's deal.

Bartomeu has full confidence in his manager and wants to take that confidence to the next level. The Asturian coach signed a two year deal last summer, but Bartomeu wants to extend that into a third year (2017)

Since Andoni Zubizarreta left in January, Luis Enrique's weight has notably grown in the sporting area of the club: not just because the team has improved on the pitch, but because of his plans to continue the improvement long-term.

In this sense, he wants Dani Alves to continue, while he has also made many other points which have aided the growth of confidence in him.

Luis Enrique's situation has completely changed since the first week of January and that defeat to Real Sociedad.

He has fought back, earned the praise which he is receiving and now looks set to be one of Bartomeu's biggest pawns in this summer's electoral campaign.
