Neymar's transfer cost was 57.1 million euros

Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again defended Barça's signing of Neymar, who's due to renew his contract in "the coming days", and outlined the costs incurred to secure the 24-year-old's signature.

The Barça president claimed the deal "wasn't botched" and stated: "No one said that Barça did anything wrong. All the club did was make a fiscal mistake, nobody said that the deal was botched.

"The transfer of Neymar cost 57.1 million euros, which is what we're now paying off. There was 17.1 million for Santos and 40 million for the player's father [and agent].

"We have to add to those figures two million, due to Neymar being a Ballon d'Or [2015] finalist, and 5.5 million to pay a fine to the Treasury. This is the cost of the deal but it's true that the total cost has risen above 100 million euros, if we include the salary, awards, titles, friendlies, pledges etc.

Bartomeu recalled that the new classification of the 40 million received by Neymar Sr as wages rather than a transfer fee means the figures of Neymar's signing vary considerably. Thus, one could assume that Neymar's transfer cost Barça 17.1 million euros.
