Bartomeu: "If I have learned anything from Laporta or Rosell, it is Sandro"

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke to Jordi Basté on 'El món a RAC 1' on Tuesday, discussing a range of issues to do with the club.

Here are some of his answers.

Jordi Mestre's resignation

"Yesterday we had a meeting to talk about many things, one of which was the FIFA ban. Mestres said: 'If you want, I will leave.' It wasn't an official conversation. In this subject everyone is responsible. For many years the club have signed in this way, now we have changed and it will not happen again.

FIFA's ban

"We are all responsible and none of us are. They have been a lot of people responsible, but we don't feel responsible because we tried to bring kids to La Masia on a scholarship. There are people that were responsible who aren't at the club anymore, but that began in 2001, they didn't go because of the FIFA case.

"I put the spotlight on FIFA. They can't continue with this rule. They must revise Article 19.

"Throughout the history of Barça there have been many cases of injustice. And this is one. I want FIFA to find a solution to this problem. FIFA must evolve and I hope there will one day be a 'Barça case' in courts."

Elections

"I'd been thinking about elections for a few weeks. It is a decision that everyone is satisfied with. I did it to reduce the tension. I am reasonably happy with how things have gone in a sporting, economic and social sense.

"I've always wanted to see out my mandate. It seemed the right thing to do, but seeing the tension in the club I decided I had to do something about it.

"I want to put myself forward against because we have a project. It never went through my head that I wouldn't stand again.

"I'll stand because I want to continue helping Barça. We have cleaned up the club, we have the 'Espai Barça' project which could change Barça and we want to get closer to the socios. We want Barça to keep growing."

Signings

"Of course there will be players in the debate about elections. We can sign players and leave them in another team until 2016."

Sporting director

"I like two or three candidates that I have seen. I would like to hire one now but there is nothing imminent."

Lionel Messi

"Messi will continue here this season, next season and the one after that. He has a contract and he is happy. We have no intention to sell Messi because we are happy with him."

Luis Enrique

"He has a contract until 2016. He is doing a job which is not easy. He is having to integrate players with those already at the club and I am quite happy [with how he is doing]."

Qatar

"Qatar is topic that we are looking at. [The deal] ends in 2016 and after that [the sponsor] will be them or another. We are not insensitive to the current situation in the country. As a sponsor we are happy with them, they have helped the club economically."

Sandro Rosell

"I was with Laporta and Rosell. If I have learned from one of them, it's Sandro. He is an expert in the world of football. His legacy is what I am taking forward."

Eusebio

"His place is not in danger. We know that Barça B have always gone from less to more. He can be calm.
