Bartomeu drops out of Barcelona's trip to Germany at the least minute

The president likes to go to all European away games but he's been unable to travel this time

After the players arrived on Tuesday, the rest of FC Barcelona’s official expedition travelled to Germany on Wednesday, although they did so with a last minute absence: Josep Maria Bartomeu. The club’s president has not travelled for the Champions League game due to personal reasons.

FC Barcelona play against Borussia Monchengladbach in their second Champions League game of the campaign. Bartomeu was set to lead the expedition in Germany. He was scheduled to go to the traditional lunch between the two clubs’ directors in the afternoon before taking in the match in the evening.

However, at the last minute, his name was added to the list of absentees, which includes injured duo Lionel Messi and Samuel Umtiti. Luis Enrique, though, took all his other players to Monchengladbach, including Aleix Vidal. In total, 20 players have made the trip.

Josep Maria Bartomeu always travels with the team when he can, especially for European games, but on this occasion it’s not been possible. However, he should still make the journeys to Manchester and Glasgow in November for Barça’s next two away games in the competition.
