Barcelona want Copa del Rey final to be played at Santiago Bernabeu

Barcelona still have a tough game to negotiate before they can reach the Copa del Rey final, but if they achieve that against Villarreal on Wednesday night, the board has decided, internally, to ask for the final to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu

Barcelona want the stadium with the largest capacity and after the Camp Nou, Real Madrid's ground is the next best option.

In the event that the opponent was Espanyol, also from Catalonia, Barcelona would be happy to host the final at Camp Nou, but logically the Pericos wouldn't be so keen to give the club that advantage.

Three years ago Barcelona wanted to play the final of the Copa del Rey at the Bernabeu, against Athletic Club, but Madrid rejected the idea, claiming they were working on their toilet facilities. Eventually, it was played in the Vicente Calderon.

Barcelona's position clashes with the president of the Spanish Football Federation, because per La Vanguardia, Angel Maria Villar wants it to be at the new San Mames.

That option is unlikely to be accepted because Espanyol's team bus was stoned last time they were there.

Furthermore, if Athletic got there then they would have home advantage.

In any case, we must wait and see which teams get there before the negotiations begin.
