Barcelona swoop in to sign Real Madrid target Andre Gomes from Valencia

Barcelona completed the stunning signing of Andre Gomes on Thursday night, swooping in to take the Valencia star out of Real Madrid's clutches.

Attacking midfielder Gomes, 22, will sign a five-year deal with the club and costs €35 million plus a potential 20m more in variables.

Martin Montoya is also expected to move to the Mestalla in conjunction with the deal, with Valencia selling right-back Antonio Barragan to Middlesborough earlier in the week.

However it could yet be a different player who Valencia take, including Sergi Samper as a possible loan, or Cristian Tello, who is not wanted by Luis Enrique.

Real Madrid had been close to capturing the star for the previous week but as they dallied, Barcelona powered in to seal the deal.

Sporting director Robert Fernandez saw the Portuguese as one of the key objectives to reinforce the midfield.
