Barcelona star Andres Iniesta honoured at National Sport Awards

The midfielder, who's currently injured, travelled to Madrid to collect the award on Monday afternoon

Barcelona player Andres Iniesta was one of the winners at the National Sport Awards 2015, an event in Madrid presided over by the Kings of Spain.

Iniesta was accompanied by Barça duo Albert Soler and Carles Vilarrubi and his agent Ramon Sostres. The midfielder, an emblematic player for club and country, received the Queen Sofía prize, which highlights the person or entity that most stood out during the year through an especially relevant gesture of nobility or through fair play in sport, thus making a special contribution to the eradication of violence in sport.

Queen Sofía herself gave the award to Iniesta, who travelled to Madrid on Monday. Upon receiving the award, he said. "I am really happy to have won this award. And the place [where we are] and the people who have accompanied me make it even more special. Everything counts in life and I do not try to set an example, but to do things well. And if, as in this case they are [seen as] positive, then even better."

The jury met on 10 October 2016 and among its members are the directors of the four Spanish sports newspapers: Ernest Folch, Diario SPORT; Santiago Nolla, from Mundo Deportivo; Alfredo Relaño, of AS; and Juan Ignacio Gallardo, of MARCA.

It is worth remembering that Iniesta is injured with a minor calf problem and is unlikely to be available for this week's games, which include the return leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Real Sociedad and the league match at Real Betis.
