Barcelona scouts attended England's friendly against Spain to watch Everton centre-back John Stones.

He did not feature in the clash in Alicante, but Barcelona are keeping track of his progress, according to The Telegraph.

Stones was picked by Gerard Pique in a World XI recently, with the Barcelona defender joining Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on the defender's list of admirers.

"Rio Ferdinand and John Terry were the two main central defenders in England. Top-level," Pique told the Telegraph.

"Now I think John Stones is a really, really, good player. He will have a good career. He’s like Rio, a bit.

"He’s young and alongside him they probably need one who is more experienced. Jagielka is injured. But [Chris] Smalling is playing well at Manchester United."
