Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man City fighting over new Busquets

Weigl is top on the list of future prospects for Barça's Robert Fernandez

Three big European teams, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City, are interested in signing Julian Weigl from Borussia Dortmund. He is a young central midfielder, just 21 years old, who is poised to become a star and has been called the ‘new Busquets’.

Weigh, who renewed his contract with the German side until 2021, is top on the list of future prospects that Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez has created. They want to find someone who can take over from Busquets (28) in the years ahead, and believe he is the best alternative.

Barcelona’s problem is the interest from elsewhere. Pep Guardiola has asked expressly for Weigl to be signed and Tiki Begiristain, City’s technical secretary, has him as one of the biggest objectives for the summer.

Dortmund signed Weil from 1860 Munich two seasons ago, paying just 2 million euros. Now his value is close to 18m. He has played 22 games this season. Weigl is a tall player at 1,87m, but has exquisite technique.
