The club want other European clubs to insert release fees into contracts

Barça also want UEFA to strictly apply the Financial Fair Play rules

Barça are prepared to lead a project to ensure that transfer fees do not keep rocketing upwards in the next few years. They see the Neymar transfer as the perfect example.

Having been negatively affected in this case, Barça are seeking to ensure that fees do not become exorbitant.

Firstly, they will ask UEFA to ensure that the Financial Fair Play rules are rigorously applied: “Financial fair play is fundamental, but we’re all waiting to see how it plays out and UEFA apply them,” sources at Barça admitted.

Barça’s second proposal is the implementation of release clauses – which have been obligatory in Spain since 1985 – throughout Europe. Barça want the release fees to be related to wages, although they are aware that it will be difficult to force through this change.

And thirdly, Barça want a limit put on the amount of money clubs can spend. “We know that it’s very difficult, due to the circumstances in football and that’s why the market has to be limited, but as a long-term measure, it wouldn’t be bad to put it on the table,” Barça staff say.

Barça have already contacted other big European clubs like Bayern, Arsenal and Juventus to try to set up a system that avoids clubs like PSG or Manchester City spending more than them due to their rich owners.
