Messi taken off injured as Pique and Roberto stand out in Barcelona's draw with Atletico

Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring with a header in the first half, only for Angel Correa to grab a point for Diego Simeone's side as Barça struggled to cope with the losses of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets

TER STEGEN (8) Could do little about Correa’s goal, who had fortune on his side in many ways -- including from the post. Made a great save from Carrasco, though, and another in the final few minutes from Godin. As is usual, he moved the ball with his feet like a fish in water.

SERGI ROBERTO (9) Continued his great form. Each time he raced down the right he caused problems. His passing and link up play was good, always looking for Messi. When Leo left the play, he wasn’t as fluid, though.

PIQUE (9) Barca’s best player. Was unfortunate to be nutmegged in the build up to Atletico’s goal, but this was an exceptional performance nevertheless, both in terms of his ability on the ball and his defensive work. Almost scored from a Neymar cross. Played with talent and intelligence.

MASCHERANO (7) Produced one great block on Gameiro after a fine Griezmann pass, but Atletico’s goal came after he’d slipped, leaving Correa one on one with Ter Stegen.

ALBA (7) The left-back never gave up the fight. His pace was fundamental in allowing Neymar to find space, above all in the first half. After the break he didn’t appear as much, but it was his shot at the end which nearly won it for the Blaugrana.

SERGIO BUSQUETS (6) It wasn’t an easy game for the midfielder as he battled flu. Eventually had to come off at the start of the second half.

RAKITIC (8) Connected well with the trident, without overlooking his defensive duties. Was very aware of Atletico’s transitional play. A brilliant first 45 minutes was topped off with a goal, a fine header which reminded of his effort at San Mames. Dropped off in the second half, although he didn’t stop fighting for every ball.

INIESTA (8) A great performance from the midfielder, his best of the season. A great cross created Rakitic’s goal. Much better in the first half than the second, but still marked the rhythm of the game after the break.

MESSI (7) The worst news for Barcelona is to see the Argentine crack on the floor, unable to continue because of a muscle problem. Until that point in the second half, his performance was notable as he moved around the pitch, running the game. Seeing his face on the bench after going off didn’t invite optimism.

SUAREZ (6) Played against someone in Godin who knows him so well. It wasn’t easy for him. His fighting spirit was evident, though. That’s one thing he always has. However things are going, he will never give up. Never.

NEYMAR (8) Was the protagonist in the team’s offensive play, especially when Messi went off injured. There was nothing controversial about his performance. No showing off; no kicks. Had one dangerous effort from outside the area which went just wide of the post.

ANDRE GOMES (5) Still has to continue with his adaption process at the club. Took Busquets’ place as the defensive pivot.

ARDA TURAN (6) Nothing can be said against the Turkish international, but it’s obvious that he’s not Leo and it showed on the team.
