Barcelona player ratings as Messi and Neymar fail to spark

Marc-Andre ter Stegen 6

He couldn't stop Griezmann's header, until which point he had been secure with his hands and his footwork. Had luck when he was beaten by a header that hit the bar. Close to saving the penalty.

Dani Alves 6

Had some of the most dangerous Barcelona moves come from his boots, including a cross which Pique didn't quite reach. Taken off for Sergi Roberto as he was growing into the game.

Gerard Pique 5

Spent the second half almost entirely attacking trying to score a header. Had a lot of problems when Barcelona were trying to stay balanced.

Javier Mascherano 4

The worst of the defence. Left Griezmann alone for his opening goal. Had lots of trouble throughout. Improved in the second half, but this was not his game.

Jordi Alba 5

Worked well with Iniesta but lacked conviction when he went forward. Griezmann's goal was partly his fault too. Neymar didn't help enough.

Sergio Busquets 5

Looked for the easy pass a lot. A bit slow in circulating play. Made some unforced errors.

Ivan Rakitic 4

The Croatian was strangely absent from the game. It was as if his soul had left him. The season is becoming too large for him - he needs a rest.

Andres Iniesta 7

The only player that saved the team from total dredge. Good game. The best in trying to solve the problems Simeone created. A pity the team didn't back him. Committed handball in the box, but also should have been given a penalty for one of his shots that was handled.

Lionel Messi 3

A state of worry continues over his hibernation. Nothing goes for him, not even free-kicks. His lack of intensity was a huge problem. Luis Enrqiue needs to solve whatever is happening because the league and cup are at stake.

Luis Suarez 5

Ran a lot but that was not enough. The only one of the trident who had a sight of goal, but his shots were not well placed.

Neymar 3

Absent. More Robinho than Ronaldinho, at least if you just look at recent performances.

Arda Turan 6

His entry for Rakitic didn't make things worse. That's the best you can say about him. Added versatility to the attack.

Sergi Roberto 6

Came on as a right back and did reasonably well in adding depth.
