Barcelona player ratings as Lucho plays the kids in Europe

Marc-Andre ter Stegen 9

Made a good save from a Hakan Calhanoglu free kick in the first half and a few stops - including from Bellarabi, twice - in the second. No chance with the goal, and stopped Javier Hernandez getting a second late on with a fine stop.

Adriano 4

A weak point in the defence, with plenty of Bayer Leverkusen's danger coming from his flank.

Marc Bartra 5

Was out of position when it came to cutting out the cross for Chicharito's goal. Booked for a late tackle on the striker.

Thomas Vermaelen 5

Wasn't close enough to Javier Hernandez, after being wrong-footed by Calhanoglu's flick-on, which allowed the Mexican to equalise.

Jordi Alba 6

Rarely got forward and seemed to have taken it upon himself to save his energy for more important clashes. A little sloppy at the back.

Sergi Samper 7

Lacked control in the first half, but then everybody would look shaky in the shadow of Sergio Busquets. Improved in the second half, playing some good passes. Not helped by the defence behind him being weak.

Ivan Rakitic 7

Perfect through ball allowed Messi to break the deadlock, and worked as hard as he usually does - which is very hard indeed. Booked for fouling Bellarrabi.

Wilfrid Kaptoum 7

Some fine dribbling, even if there obviously are still flaws in his overall game. Messi even apologised to him after taking a shot when the youngster could have hit it. A decent showing.

Lionel Messi 7

Scored the opener after beating the offside trap and rounding the goalkeeper. Didn't get on the ball much after the interval.

Sandro Ramirez 5

Huffed and puffed but remained very far from blowing the house down.

Munir El Haddadi 4

Couldn't build on his goals against Villanovense. Totally ineffectual.
