Barcelona player ratings after awful Super Cup display

Marc-Andre ter Stegen 3

Made a serious error to give the first goal away, as he ran out of his box to head the ball away, with San Jose volleying it in from the half-way line. In the second half, each arrival of Athletic ended in a goal. A gamea to forget.

Dani Alves 3

Left his motor in the grarage. Didn't join with the attack like usual, and was beaten many times. Fought and battled but scarcely linked up wit hthe midfield. Gave away a penalty inexplicably.

Marc Bartra 4

Lost various balls and made Barcelona's fans nervous, though Athletic didn't take advantage in the first half. In the second he lost duels with Aduriz, who scored a hat-trick and had the beating of him all night.

Thomas Vermaelen 4

Second official game for the Belgian at Barcelona. Started well, but clearly lacked match rhythm and on many occasions, understanding with his team-mates. Still green.

Adriano 2

The Brazilian, like Alves, did not get up the flank because of the very intense pressing by Athletic. He lost a lot of balls, one of them for the third goal, scored by Aduriz. An awful game.

Sergi Roberto 4

He was working hard to give Barcelona's midfield oxygen. Spent more time destroying than creating, and the team noticed this. Lost the ball for the second goal, another scored by Aduriz. Subbed for Rakitic.

Javier Mascherano 4

In front of his usual defensive position, back in his old haunt. The Argentine won the ball back few times and was very active to cut out some moves. At times he was between the centre-backs as Barcelona were pushed back. Beaten in the air by Aduriz a few times. The picture of him lying on the ground after the second goal speaks for itself.

Rafinha 3

Played out wide on Tuesday but was back in the central midfield here, though occasionally drifted to the right. Was barely involved and didn't give any consistency in the middle. Taken off after 52 mins for Iniesta.

Lionel Messi 5

Barely entered the game. In the fitrst half, apart from a foul he committed, he was only seen when taking a free kick which Gorka Iraizoz tipped around the post. In the second half he saw a shot saved by the goalkeeper. Had to come deeper for the ball.

Luis Suarez 4

The Uruguayan had few chances to look for goal, but he searched until the end. Didn't get a shot on target. Slow when inside the box. Could have got in trouble for an elbow on Balenziaga after 18 mins.

Pedro 5

He had the clearest chance for Barcelona, hitting a powerful shot off the bar in the 50th minute. Showed a good attitude, but couldn't make the difference. was booked, then subbed for Sandro.

SUBS

Andres Iniesta 4

Could bring little to the game and, like always at the San Mames, was booed.

Ivan Rakitic 4

Showed experience and knowledge but neither were sufficient to stop the team hemorrhaging goals.

Sandro Ramirez 4

Helped Barcelona become more vertical and fought hard down the left, but with little luck.
