Barcelona planning to give Lionel Messi a new contract

Barcelona have a new contract for Lionel Messi on their agenda. There is no rush, but neither do they want to make it a big issue. Leo Messi has has a contract which goes up to June 30, 2018. One which was renewed as recently as May 2014, keeping his release fee clause of 250 million euros.

In this manner Messi became the best paid player at Barcelona, with an annual salary of €20m plus four or five more in variables.

Barcelona showed their total support of the player despite the problems he was suffering off the field and also ended all sorts of speculation about his future.

A situation which has repeated with the state lawyer appealing for jail penalties against Messi and his father for fiscal fraud.

Messi wants to stay at Barcelona, but the club want to give him a new deal to prolong the relationship, something that will see Messi finish his career at the club.

FIRST, NEYMAR

Before the renovation of Messi's deal, Josep Maria Bartomeu and the board are going to give Neymar a new contract.

"This is the season of his renewal, yes," said Bartomeu on 8TV, recently. "But from here, we will try not to broadcast the details of the negotiations and work discreetly to be able to renew his contract."
