Barcelona linked with shock move for Atletico's Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres could be one of Barcelona’s targets as they look to add depth to their front line next season. The Atletico Madrid forward, according to Diario AS, is being considered by the Blaugrana as he would be available for free in the summer. According to the player’s agent, he has eight offers for next season and it now appears one of those could be from Barça.

FIFA’s transfer ban has complicated Torres’ future, as Atletico can now no longer sign him in the summer - if they were planning on doing so. Instead, they would have to exercise their right to buy him before January 31, which was written into the agreement when they took him from AC Milan. The Spanish striker is not wanted by the Italian club and if Atletico don’t do a deal before the end of the month, he will be free to negotiate with other teams.

Torres has always done well against Barcelona in the past. He’s had a high success rate in front of goal when facing the Catalan side, which includes contributing to Chelsea’s elimination of Pep Guardiola’s Barça team in the 2011-12 Champions League semi-final. Who knows if, as AS suggest, Torres and Barcelona’s paths could cross later this year…
