Barcelona know their Copa del Rey semi final opponents: Villarreal

After Wednesday night's storm came the calm on Thursday. Villarreal will play Barcelona in the last four of the Copa del Rey after beating Getafe 1-0 on the night to record a 2-0 aggregate win.

There were five goals in the first half as Barca knocked out at Atletico Madrid, but there were none here. Nor was there much action.

It didn't feel like a game either side particularly wanted to win.

Luciano Vietto, who has excited for Villarreal in recent weeks, was left on the bench along with the likes of Denis Cheryshev and the Dos Santos brothers.

Even Getafe didn't seem to harbour huge homes of making a comeback from their defeat at El Madrigal. Quique Sanchez Flores handed four starts to players from the club's B team.

Therefore it was perhaps fitting that the game's only goal came from Gerard Moreno, himself hardly considered a staple in Marcelino Garcia Toral's side.

With the second half drawing to a close, he rounded Jona and scored to settle the tie.

The home side's best chances were not even really chances.

Freddy's cross forced Sergio Asenjo to dramatically tip the ball over his crossbar for a corner, while all other openings seemed to feature dangerous crosses with nobody interested in supplying the finish.

Villarreal will have to be more interested if they want to topple Luis Enrique's Barcelona over two legs for a place in the final.

The first leg will be at Camp Nou the week after next.
