Do Barcelona have a corner kick problem?

Barcelona have not scored from 192 corner kicks in La Liga this season.

The Catalan giants are one of 47 teams from 900 examined across Europe's top flights who have not found the net from these dead ball situations this season.

By contrast, Real Madrid are 11th highest in the goals from corner kicks category. They have scored seven goals from 151 corners, an average of 0.33 goals per game from corners.

The data spans from the start of the season up until the end of January and is collected by Sports Matrix.

Surprisingly, Stoke City have not netted from corners this season either, despite their reputation and that they have the tallest average squad height in the Premier League, at 184.8cm.

However, despite Barcelona's lack of goals from corners, that may not be a bad thing.

Sports Matrix explains: "There appears to be a clear negative correlation between a team’s reliance on corners and their position in the league."

They add: "This perhaps suggests that poor teams find it more difficult to score goals from open play and therefore focus more on being effective from their set plays."
