Barcelona first La Liga team to reach 100 goals in 2016-17

Messi leads the way but there have been plenty of other contributors to the cause

Barcelona scored their 100th goal of the season against Athletic Club. Aleix Vidal was the player who had the honour of scoring it. Luis Enrique's side are the only team in Spain, therefore, who have reached a century of goals.

Having the trident in the squad is a blessing when talking about goals. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have scored 62 of the 100 goals. But, curiously, there's an 'intruder' in the list of top scorers.

While Messi, with 31, and Suarez, with 22, lead the list, it's not Neymar who follows them. The Brazilian has scored nine goals and his tally is bettered by Arda Turan, who has managed 13 in all competitions this season. The four have scored 75 percent of Barça's goals.

Luis Enrique's side's goals have come across a number of competitions. In the league they've netted 50 times, while the rest have come in the Champions League (20) and the Copa del Rey (20), while they also scored five in the Spanish Super Cup.

LEADING REAL MADRID

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane's side have scored 98 goals, but in all competitions they have played two less games than Barça, despite their participation in the Club World Cup in January.

If we analyse the competions both sides have played in, Barça have scored four more in the league (55-51); four more in the Champions League (20-16); and two less in the Copa del Rey (20-22). In the three competitions, the score is 95-89 in Barça's favour.

Barça took part in the Spanish Super Cup, scoring five goals, while Madrid scored three in the European Super Cup and six in the Club World cup.

LUIS ENRIQUE CLOSE TO 450

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique also boasts a good goals for record since taking charge. Since he took the first team job at Camp Nou, Barça have netted 448 goals, leaving him just two from a nice round 450.

The Asturian coach re-joined the club in 2014-15, taking over from Tata Martino, who was in charge for just one season. Under Lucho, there were 175 goals in season one, 173 in season two and 100 so far in season three.
