Barcelona fans ask Messi to let Mascherano take a penalty

Javier Mascherano was noticed during Barcelona's win over Celta Vigo. It was his 264th game as a Blaugrana star and he equaled Ronald Koeman's total.

These 264 games have seen him play a lot of minutes, most of them as a starter, but Mascherano still has not scored a goal for the Catalan giants.

There are other players in the squad who have not done this, but their circumstances are very different.

Douglas, Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan have not scored, but they don't come anywhere close to Mascherano's number of games played.

The fans want him to score. Someone has created a Change.org petition for Lionel Messi to give up one of Barcelona's penalties to his compatriot.

They explain: "We think Mascherano doesn't have sufficient recognition as a Barcelona star. He has brought so much to the team it seems unfair he's not recognised as he deserves - in football everything's measured in goals so for this we want him to score a goal for Barcelona."

They add: "The most simple way is to let him take a penalty, and we ask Leo Messi to do this."
