Barcelona director admits the club needs to sign a defender

Barcelona’s director of international football Ariedo Braida, in an interview with ‘Premium Sport’, has spoken about the possible signings Luis Enrique’s side could make in the summer.

The Catalan side’s defence has five players over 30 years of age - Dani Alves, Jeremy Mathieu, Javier Mascherano, Thomas Vermaelen and Adriano - and he suggested that’s an area the club will have to strengthen.

Braida explained that it is “very likely” the club will sign defenders “given the elevated age of the players” and, also, for being “the most criticised”.

Asked how Barça can improve, he limited himself to explaining that, despite the success, there is always room to kick on.

“This is a great club, with a great team and a great manager. It’s difficult to predict the future, but we always have to improve,” he said.

Finally, he was asked about the great relationship enjoyed by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar off the pitch: “They are really good friends. It’s everything it seems.”
