Barcelona confirm deal with sports brand Nike - and it could be worth 155 million euros

Barcelona and Nike have closed an historic agreement until 2026, an eight year extension to the current deal which was due to expire in 2018. It is an agreement which converts the Blaugrana into the best paid club by any sports brand, surpassing Manchester United and Adidas’ 96 million euro deal.

The Catalan club announced revealed the news at gone 2am on Saturday morning with a press release that didn’t give dates or figures. SPORT has been able to find out, though, that it will be worth a minimum of 105 million euros per season and could reach a maximum of 155 million, depending on variables.

The talks took place throughout the last few months, with both parties happy that the deal struck benefits everyone. Nike, after losing Manchester United, needed to maintain their relationship with Barcelona, the most important club the American brand works with. For that reason, the numbers have increased significantly from the previous deal.

After closing this historic deal, which was predicted a few days ago, and announcing the agreement, it is now a question of presenting it to the media. The intention is to do so next week, after the Copa del Rey final between Barça and Sevilla at the Vicente Calderon on Sunday.

The new contract between Nike and Barça gives some oxygen to club presided over by Josep Maria Bartomeu, above all because for the moment there is no sponsor for the front of the shirts next season. That’s something, though, the club hope to resolve in the coming weeks.

Bartomeu said: “Through this new agreement with Nike we are extending a strategic alliance for the club, while also reinforcing our global position, hand in hand with the leading global sports brand.

“We are excited by this new agreement and are confident that we’ll be able to celebrate continued sporting successes together.”
