Barcelona to close Mascherano's renewal before pre-season

Javier Mascherano’s future is at Barcelona. The Catalan club want to tie down the player during one of the most difficult moments of his career, after painfully losing the Copa America final with Argentina to Chile.

In this sense, Barça and the player pre-agreed an improved contract, which will materialise in the coming weeks.

The club understand and respect the player’s need to rest after taking part in the Copa. The idea is to sign the new economic terms before the start of pre-season, which is on July 19.

Walter Tamer, the player’s representative, is set to travel to Barcelona in the coming days. He expects to meet with Raul Sanllehi, who is also set to return to the city from Brazil, where he has been resolving Neymar’s future, the signing of Gabriel Jesus and the loan of Marlon Santos.

When all parties implicated in the deal are in Barcelona, the contract will be signed. Remember that the new conditions were agreed in a meeting between the club’s sporting director Robert Fernandez, Tamer and Mascherano in the United States during the Copa America.

In the same meeting, Robert communicated to the player that the club had declared him untransferable and that they would not negotiate a move to Juventus.

The idea is to close the matter before Luis Enrique’s side begin pre-season (Mascherano and Lionel Messi don’t have to return until the end of July).
