Barcelona check in on Carrasco as he hits winner against Bayern

Sporting director Robert Fernandez is already scouting for the future and the Atletico man is to his taste

With the ‘Paco Alcacer Soap Opera’ still present, many Barcelona fans may be thinking that there won’t be any talk of signings for many more months now. That couldn’t be further from reality, because Barça are already working on next season. There’s no vacation time for clubs.

Of the names currently being managed by sporting director Robert Fernandez, there’s one he particularly likes. That one is Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Ferreira Carrasco.

At 23, the Belgian forward has demonstrated he’s got the ability to be a top level player in the short-to-medium term. He’s good one on one, can shoot, is versatile and has character. The former Monaco man was the hero, too, on Wednesday, scoring the goal as Atletico Madrid beat Bayern Munich.

The player was targeted by Barça this past summer, although an operation never came to fruition. His release clause is 40 million euros, a figure which is easily within reach of Europe’s biggest clubs. In fact, Atletico have spent months working on a contract renewal in an attempt to increase that clause. His current terms expire in 2020.

On Wednesday, Robert Fernandez was the Vicente Calderon ‘spying’ on a player who has not stopped growing. And Barça know it.
