Barcelona cancel friendly clash scheduled in Qatar

Barcelona have decided to suspend the friendly the team was set to play in Doha on May 24. It was only announced a few days ago, but the reason they are cancelling the clash with Al-Alhi is officially that both parties decided to mutually suspend it because it falls on the same dates as the final of the L'Emir Cup and different games in the local league.

However, informally, voices from the dressing room suggest that the players' desire not to travel to Qatar to play Al-Alhi was instrumental in the decision to suspend the trip.

Barcelona signed a deal in 2010 with Qatar which means the club should play a friendly each year. Since that day, Barcelona have only played one game in Paris - owned by QSI, the same fund that has the sponsorship deal with Barcelona) and participated in a charity clinic in Palestine.
