Barcelona and Real Madrid have one key game each to decide La Liga

The 35th week of La Liga left everything between Barcelona and Real Madrid the same as it was one week before, except now there's one game less.

Barcelona had problems opeing the scoring against Cordoba but in the end destroyed their opponents at the Nuevo Los Carmenes. With a hat-trick from Luis Suarez and a brace from Lionel Messi, they eventually ran out 8-0 winners.

Madrid responded a few hours later with a thrilling clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where they beat a feisty Sevilla 3-2. Madrid suffered, but won out thanks to a Cristiano Roanldo hat-trick.

So Barcelona have 87 points, Madrid 85. Neither Luis Enrique nor Carlo Ancelotti can rest easy, as they search for the league title, but they also have Champions League semi-finals against Bayern and Juventus respectively to face up to. These opponents have won the Bundesliga and the Scudetto already.

The calendar

Barcelona have two easier matches at home but one very tricky away game against Atletico Madrid. On May 9 they host Real Sociedad, who beat them 1-0 at Anoeta, before they head to the Vicente Calderon. Finally it's a home match against Deportivo de la Coruna. It seems that the trip to face Diego Simeone's side will be crucial - and Atletico are still chasing that third place spot.

Madrid, meanwhile, host Valencia next weekend, another team still desperate to secure a Champions League spot. After that, Madrid head away to Espanyol and then finish the season at home against Getafe.

Between these three La Liga games are the Champions League home and away legs against Bayern and Juve. Barcelona know they cannot slip up in La Liga, because if the teams finish on level points, Madrid will win on a head-to-head basis (across the two Clasicos they lead 4-3).

So there is no margin for error, for either side.
