Robert Fernández says Barcelona very much wanted Verratti

Emery suggested to Valverde the Catalan club didn't make an offer

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez wanted to deny Unai Emery's comments about Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

In a conversation captured with Ernesto Valverde this week, PSG boss Emery insinuated that Barça had not made contact for Verratti and that's why they had not signed him.

Emery's comments were made at the UEFA managers' forum this week in Nyon: "I'm sure Barcelona like Verratti, it's normal to like him, but they never went for him."

Robert responded on Saturday, saying: "That's no true. I personally spoke with Emery, I know him from his time at Valencia and he knows full well that Verratti is a player we wanted."

Remember that Barcelona and Verratti had a deal in place, but it wasn't pushed through due to PSG's refusal to sell the Italian international.
